SAC Reaches New Heights with Rock Climbing Experience

At SAC 2023, we executed a rock climbing program for our older bunks (3’s & 4’s) that we had been preparing behind the scenes for an entire year.  The whole team and I put a lot of effort into sourcing the most optimal location, structuring the climb experience, and ensuring the campers would have the best time possible.  Sure enough, our care and devotion to this project had paid off!  Everyone was super excited the second they arrived at The Feathers (Vantage Washington), eager to get on the wall.  It was so beautiful to see everyone cheering on their fellow campers, and encouraging them to do their absolute best.  In addition, it was such an excellent bonding opportunity.  To see the apprehension melt away with a little encouragement from peers was very touching.  I’ve already had campers say they enjoyed it so much, they want to come back next year!

The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the top rock wall accentuated the canyon vista below.  Campers enjoyed soaking in the rich desert environment, exploring with one another, and feeling the power of nature in a unique setting.  At the base of the climbing location, the energy was palpable.  Nothing but smiling faces, and an overwhelmingly supportive atmosphere.  I cannot express how much all of your trust, as parents, means to me.   I look forward to continuing to bring this fulfilling experience to camp, in a way that’s safe and fun for everybody!
