Tisha B’Av 2017

Queridos Madres y Padres,

In respect of Tisha B’Av today I will be sharing today’s events, and we will be posting yesterday’s blog and pictures tomorrow. Last night, after hydrating all day and eating a hearty meal, followed by eggs and lentils, the entire camp met for Arvit, followed by the Sephardic Tisha B’Av service, which started out with a skit by some of the staff depicting scenes of Yirmiyahu warning the Jewish people that if they do not change their ways, destruction will come. The evening continued with Eicha and Kinot, where Josh, Rabbi Hadar, Dena Hadar, Chacham and Chana shared stories in between the perakim to help bring focus and meaning to the day.  The evening continued late into the night with campers and staff singing around a beautiful Magen David made out of tea lights.

Today’s scheduled activities all reflect the feel of the day. After tefila, kinot and sessions, the campers will all get to hear from some CITs, who will be telling their personal family’s stories of hardships and bravery over the years. Afterwards, the campers will choose between resting, watching Paperclips, an art project, building a model of the Beit Hamikdash, or going on a nature walk. Mincha will be at 7:30 and it will be followed by Singing until the end of the fast. The non-fasting campers will have normal, yet simple meals, and we will all enjoy a big delicious break-fast meal.

We look forward to being together at SAC Camp next year in Yerushalayim.

Al Vermos,
