SAC Day 6

Queridos Madres y Padres,

After coming off of Shabbat, the campers started Sunday with sessions, where the leaders went over the Rambam’s concepts of love and fear of G-d and how we interpret this from a Sephardic perspective. To bring these concepts to life, the teachers brought various props and action-oriented games and stories along with the source materials. They also discussed Sephardic traditions for the week of Tisha Be’Av. After Tefillah, Al Maimon gave a Ladino-infused Perasha lesson from a recently published Ladino Sefer that uses Sephardic methodology of Torah interpretation. The kids enjoyed this unique experience.

At lunch, the kids enjoyed Mac and Cheese and salad, and then watched a video recap of our first week at SAC, which has been uploaded to YouTube, so you can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAyA7P0FS8k&t=3s. Afterwards, the older bunks, B3, B4, and G3/4 all went on an overnight! They set up their own tents, played some outdoor games, they ate, and prayed by a bonfire that they made.

While the older kids were away the younger kids participated in Chugim, most notably the Cooking Chug made some amazing chocolate chip cookies. They also participated in Arts and Crafts, where the G1 girls helped decorate a camp “mail box,” played Sports, hiked during Wilderness, and took part in a special Challenge Course. At the Challenge Course there was a huge wooden board, almost like a seesaw, and the campers had to work together and practice their communication skills so that they could all balance on it. At night, the campers had a relaxing night, so we threw a Pajama Party and watched the movie “Life of Pets.”

Tonight the CITs (Counselors in Training) went to Escape the Room, which is where a group works together and races against a clock, systematically solving riddles and clues. They also did a team building ropes course and finished the night at Cannon Beach, where they saw a beautiful sunset over the water.
