SAC by the Numbers….Who’s Who at SAC 2022?

Just who makes up our SAC 2022 camp community this year?   We want to share some stats with you to answer that question, and give you a sense of our reach!

For starters, we have 117 campers this year which is our record for recent history!  Out of the 117, 53 are girls and 64 are boys. And 46 or 40% of our campers are new to SAC this year! We are thrilled to welcome so many new campers!

Here is a breakdown of the states and countries our campers have joined us from:

107 of our 117 campers hail from eight (8) of the United States.  Represented states of the union are Washingon, (67 campers/57%), California (29 campers/25%), Oregon (4 campers/3%), Florida (3 campers/3%), and one camper each from Alaska, New York, and our new states added this year…..Connecticut and Nevada!

Noa Levy, Madrid Spain

Of our campers that joined us from outside the US, we have 5 campers (4%) from Israel, 4 campers from British Columbia Canada (3%), and one camper from Ontario Canada!  In addition, we have staff members that have joined us from 7 of the United States plus, BC and Ontario Canada, Israel, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Spain!

How many family units are represented at SAC?  The answer is 72 families.  61% of our campers have siblings up at camp.

Siblings Joe and Paulina Gamel

What about legacy children – (the kids of SAC alumnae)?  34 of our 117 campers have at least one parent that went to SAC!!!  Nine (9) of our campers have two SAC alum parents!  They are Sephi, Levi and Asher Alhadeff (sons of Daniel and Leora), Paulina Gamel and her brother counselor Joe Gamel, (son & daughter of Ilya and Cynthia Gamel), Moses, Ruben, and Joelle Owen (children of Jacob and Tanya Owen), and new campers Joshua and Elie Harel, (sons of Janna and Nisan Harel).  Another 15 or so campers also have grandparents that were SAC campers!  Mashala!!!

Some ask questions related to Sephardic vs. Ashkenazic campers.  We don’t tend to focus on these numbers.  What we do know is that 100% of our campers will leave as SAC Campers imparted with Sephardic culture, and that they will most definitely chime in with the words to Ojo de Hamsa when they hear the song “Eye of the Tiger”.  And for us, this is a much more relevant and meaningful statistic!
