Shabbats at SAC

Queridos Madres y Padres,

Shabbat at Sephardic Adventure Camp is fundamentally unique experience unlike any other offered in the country! By combining the traditional teffilot (prayer services) of Sephardic Bikkur Holim and Congregation Ezra Bessaroth with a summer camp atmosphere, the rabbis and staff at SAC are able to shape an unforgettable learning experience for campers of all ages. Instead of being separated by bunk, Shabbat meals are eaten on massive communal tables, where all campers share the smells and tastes of an authentic Sephardic Shabbat.

After eating freshly-made traditional Sephardic cuisine, the camp joins in singing classic and contemporary pizmonim (songs) in Hebrew, English, and Ladino. The Shabbat day offers the unique opportunity for campers to directly engage and learn with staff members that they otherwise may not have had the chance to connect with, such as counselors of other bunks. This “Shabbat buddy” system exemplifies what Sephardic Adventure Camp is all about: expanding Jewish knowledge while strengthening an unbreakable sense of community.
